VIRTUAL TOUR
It’s spring in Paris! But the most unusual spring anyone has experienced in a very long time.
We thought we would bring you some images and videos of the city at this time of year (taken in previous springs) – a virtual tour you can enjoy wherever you are. You can use this to help you plan your next visit at this wonderful time of year in a city that is a joy in any season.
The magnolias are mostly over but the cherries, including the beautiful Kwanzan cherry trees which are becoming more and more popular throughout the city, are out. They bloom anywhere from late March to the third week of April but average around April 10th.
The first stop on your tour is Notre Dame and Square Jean XXIII. Watch the video with your volume turned up.
The trees frame one of the rose windows of the cathedral. It’s an enchanting setting with the exploding pink of the blossoms against the ancient stonework of Notre Dame, the classic dark green benches, the grey-green of the elegant lamp posts and the pale yellow sand of Square Jean XXIII (click or tap the arrows to see all the images in the slideshow).
When the petals fall, for a day or two, the ground becomes covered in pink “snow.”
Across the river from Notre Dame is the famous bookstore, Shakespeare and Company. The tiny square in front of the store has several fairly young cherry trees that add romance to the historic location.
And through the misty blossoms, you can see the towers of Notre Dame and hear the bells chime on the hour, a magical and unforgettable memory.
Let’s visit some of the other spots around Paris for cherry blossoms.
The Parc du Champ de Mars has several cherry trees which frame the Eiffel Tower as it looms above.
The next one is Square Gabriel Pierné, a charming and peaceful spot where some of the benches are in the form of open books.
The Jardin des Plantes has some wonderful cherry trees, pink and white.
The courtyard at the Petit Palais has a wonderful mix of different colors of cherry blossom. You can sit outside at the cafe and enjoy the peaceful and lovely view.
There are many, many locations around Paris with beautiful cherry trees in bloom. Too many to cover them all. But here are a few more.
