We had a wonderful response to the last blog post, Christmas 2020 in Paris - Part 1. Thank you! As promised, we are posting Part 2 in time for Christmas. We hope it will provide some entertainment and help ease any, “I wish I could be in Paris” blues.
To be honest, we have so much material – there is so much going on – that we still haven’t shown you everything even with Part 2. So, if we get a lot of requests, we may run to a Part 3 after the holidays as a dose of nostalgia before you get cracking with 2021.
Photos, video and captions follow. We hope you enjoy it all.
These first photos show the lobby of the wonderful Hotel Plaza Athenée, one of our favorites in Paris.
Here is a short video of the lobby of the Plaza Athenée with its wonderful Christmas decorations. And a photo of the exterior of the hotel which is always beautiful in all seasons.
This is the exterior of the hotel in the context of Avenue Montaigne, which is always a blaze of lights during the holiday season. We will find any excuse to walk down this street in the evening!
Since we’re on the streets, let’s have a look at some others. There are many communities which proudly light their streets for Christmas. You saw rue Montorgueil in the last blog post. Here are some more.
Next is a video of the very popular, busy Rue Cler, a little community and street market in its own right.
Below is rue Faubourg-Saint Honoré which always puts on a spectacular show all the way down the street at this time of year.
Which brings us logically to one of this holiday season’s most popular installations. A large hot air balloon which lights up at night. It is in a square in front of the Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption with Dior opposite and Chanel on rue Saint-Honoré to one side, both beautifully decorated.
Here are two videos, one of the balloon, which is such a fun decoration, and another of the shop windows of Printemps on Avenue Haussmann and the reaction of some of the multitude of kids who watched in fascination.
Speaking of shops, many of your favorites are beautifully decorated for Christmas. Here is Laduree in various locations.
Then there is Ralph Lauren on Boulevard Saint-Germain with perhaps the cutest reception party ever and a very green, vintage van dispensing coffee and goodies to passersby.
Bon Marché Rive Gauche department store has created a wonderful, snowy winter wonderland in the shop.
Two videos follow, one for Ralph Lauren and the other for Bon Marché.
There are many more wonderful hotels, shops, streets, neighborhoods, parks and squares all looking festive and fun. We can’t cover them all here. But we might do a third installment….
Here are two more hotels that are definitely worthy of note. The first is the Ritz in Place Vendôme with a HUGE teddy bear overseeing the very popular and busy gourmet hot chocolate and cakes takeaway outlet.
Last but not least is the lobby of the beautiful George V hotel, famous for its very creative floral displays.
We hope we have given you a good feel for how Paris is celebrating this Christmas.
