Autumn in Paris

Autumn in Paris is the favored season of many visitors and residents. The weather is perfect, the light luminious, the summer crowds have departed and a hushed relaxation falls upon the city as the leaves themselves drift slowly down. No bright scarlet or crimson hues herald the change of the season in Paris – all is golden and copper with subtle shades of russet and green. A wander through the parks and gardens is punctuated by the crunch of leaves underfoot and the lilt of branches softly bending in a barely-perceptible breeze.

No wonder autumn is a cherished time, with monuments bathed in shimmering light and a peacefulness found at no other time of year. Herewith, some of our favorite locations to revel in it all.

The Eiffel Tower and Pont Alexandre III, seen from the right bank of the Seine.

Jardin du Luxembourg is possibly our most frequented location in the fall. Pavillion de La Fontaine, a picturesque cafe in the garden, is framed with golden trees and is a welcome stop for hot chocolate after a brisk walk.

The majestic Medici Fountain, also in Jardin du Luxembourg, ringed with urns and garlands. Below, a quiet path in the garden at dawn.

These distinctive benches are found in Parc Monceau, an elegant park off the tourist path with a whimsical carousel, meandering lake and classical colonnade.
